Re: Too old to start hunting?

That seems like too much work. I've hunted in Newfoundland. You just head into the woods into your hunting area and you never have to knock on anyone's door or keep a Christmas card and booze cheat sheet. Ask just how much crown land there is in Southern Ontario...a few postage stamps here and ther...

Re: Too old to start hunting?

I have a potentially dumb question..... If you do not own a farm, or land, where do you go to hunt? All the people I know that hunt (all 3 of them); One has a farm, One has a hunting lodge surrounded by crown land, and one goes with relative to said hunting lodge. You knock knock knock on door afte...

Re: Const. Vu Pham

Constable Pham's funeral was a deserved send-off for a dedicated family man and police officer. I attended with a friend of mine who knew him from attending church with Constable Pham in Parry Sound. By the end of the service, based on how vivid everyone's memories were of him, I almost felt like I ...

Re: Anyone into archery?

I started out with your standard 'olympic' set-up when I was 10 or so. I still do shoot that type of set-up at the range. I tried compound target bows, but, they just didn't seem to fit with me. I use a compound to hunt with most of the time, but, I have also taken up shooting a traditional longbow ...

Re: Kitchener Waterloo to hire!

Yes, 10 new officers and hiring by attrition.

For a growing Region such as this one, a lot more needed to be done to increase the budget and once again they have had the numbers slashed.

Re: Deer?

So, how did you do folks? I passed on 15 opportunities, 10 different deer this year during the archery season. The 'right one' just didn't show up. Actually, I need to rephrase that, because he did show up, on December 28th, but his right side had already dropped. I did find that I saw a lot fewer d...

Re: Kitchener Waterloo to hire!

As has been stated, it needs to be approved. Since money was cut from the service the last time around, it's tough to say whether it will be approved, even though it is a need for the Region.

Re: The Perfect Pint

Granite Peculiar. You used to be able to get it at the LCBO, but I don't think it's listed any longer. When I lived in Toronto I used to just drop into the Granite Brewery/Restaurant (corner of Eglington and Mount Pleasant in Toronto) for a pint with my wife after she finished her shift every so oft...

Re: Deer?

I always hate hearing about hunters having things stolen, because unfortunately it's obviously people who call themselves hunters (but they're just common thieves) that are doing it. I have had a couple treestands and a ground blind stolen off of private property. Obviously whoever took them was tre...

Re: Deer?

got 5 geese so far buddy got some geese, but i never got around to asking him how to cook 'em. what is your personal method? I do pepperettes and jerky. I'm not a big fan of goose in any other form...but some of the landowners I deal with love seeing them shot, so I do hunt them. Time to take a wee...

Re: Deer?

You guys need to come to Sask. Best Whitetail in Canada! We even made it on Big Buck Hunter hahaha. Got skunked elk hunting this year, just were not moving at all. Finally get to Hunt on Sundays, I will probably pass, but it might get rid of some of the drive by window hunters, out of the way durin...

That's usually when I say..."That's hunting."

There's a reason it's not just called 'shopping' or 'shooting'.

was out with a guy from my shift and an o-dot today goin' for ducks. first time out.. lots of fun. gonna have to take this stuff more seriously. I never have been a serious waterfowler. I do hunt them on occassion before the deer season opens and after I have filled all my tags or if it's a rainy d...

Re: Deer?

This is a good resource for anyone interested on how a deer herd should be managed: m I have been practicing quality deer management for six years now and have seen a drastic difference in the health of the deer in my area. Myself and three other hunters adhere to the principles of QDMA across eight...

Re: Deer?

I've been out three times and passed on four different bucks...one of them three times. It's too early in the season for me to be dropping a 2.5 year old just for the sake of putting a deer in the freezer and I haven't had a doe walk by me yet. There's a big 10 I've been scouting since Summer around...
