Re: Insurance reform hikes driver's bill to $104,000

Considering she moved to Alberta, rented an apartment and stocked it with lobster tails, I would say she is now a resident of Alberta. Its a rather murky area of law, but as far as I know you can claim permanent residency anywhere your parents live, you have a mailbox, or rent/own property. When I ...

Re: Insurance reform hikes driver's bill to $104,000

Funny how much of a discrepancy there is for insurance in AB... I have heard it all if this kids hitting a 100 grand... hahaha As with utilities and other services, the savings are around, you just have to work a little to find them. I tend to shop around every year or so, and if I find a better de...

Re: Another baton thread

In certain US states , you can buy tasers for self protection If you can hit it.....easier said than done and it's a one off deal. And yeah, you'd be more apt to be cautious around a dog than worry about a mangy coyote doing anything to you. I've got a friend who works Fish and Wildlife in the Calg...

Re: Another baton thread

I've never heard of a Coyote attacking a human before. I used to live on a farm and the only thing they would harm on our property was maybe a calf or two. Besides I doubt a Baton would do much, you'd probably be better off with a shotgun or a .22 calibre. There was something on the news not long a...

Re: Brinks Toronto

If you're looking to work in Alberta, and are interested in the Security field, I'd recommend looking into University and Hospital security in either Calgary or Edmonton. I know some folks working there - they're unionized, start at around $22 / hr, and are always looking for people. I also know a g...

Re: Chuck Norris

Some of my faves: Chuck Norris once roundhouse kicked someone so hard that his foot broke the speed of light, went back in time, and killed Amelia Earhart while she was flying over the Pacific Ocean. The first taser was created by strapping a 9-volt battery to Chuck Norris' foot. Chuck Norris doesn'...

Re: For Police firearm instructors

I've heard of a force that, in training, practiced magazine changes after 3 rounds (IIRC). They quickly found out from AARs that officers were performing this manuever under real conditions and discontinued the practice. I believe Grossman covers a few examples like this in his book 'On Combat' (whi...

Re: Another Boneheaded Decision

Rediculous. I thought there was some kind of provision where intentionally taking an action that a reasonable person could see as likely to cause death is enough for attempted murder ?

Nice pics. I have a few buddies who are game wardens, they often tell me 3/4 of the salary is paid in scenery.

Re: Depot and Family

A friend of mine got his troop assignment 2 weeks after the birth of his first child. He managed to drive back (10 + hrs one way) almost every other weekend, but it made for some difficulty while training. Not too much though, as he did graduate.

:aye: This is how it works in the areas I'm familiar with. Billing residents is a pretty bone-headed move by the administration.

Re: Article: Father charged in teen's killing

Tragic, but I wonder what the motives were behind it. From the National Post : Dominiquia, 16, said her friend had been arguing with her father for more than a year over the restrictions he imposed on her, including demanding that she wear the hijab at all times. “She wanted to go out with her frie...

I hear members from municipal services in Alberta complaining about it fairly frequently. I assumed it was common practice, my apologies if this does not occur out east.
