Re: Calgary Police Service

It’s a fair question. We haven’t heard anything yet. At the end of the day, we have an authorized service strength and we are nowhere near that in terms of bodies. We will continue to have retirements and people quitting who need to be replaced as well. I’d expect that we may trim back the volume o...

Re: Calgary Police Service

Any word on what the upcoming budget cuts are going to do as far as recruiting is concerned? Heard from a friend in CFD they just cancelled their class that was supposed to start in a couple of weeks and there are rumors of possible layoffs coming. Not sure if this is a good platform to be having th...

Re: Calgary Police Service

I second the follow up email.

If it makes you feel better, when myself and a friend applied last year, we both applied in January and heard nothing until May. They are not kidding when they say the process takes a long time.

Re: Calgary Police Service

Pacing is key for the shuttle run. Try and test it if you can every couple of weeks. I went and bought a 30m tape measure and a couple of cones from Lowes and found a flat open place to set it up. Also had a couple of friends run it with me - helps for motivation if you can find someone willing. Try...

Re: Calgary Police Service

Got deferred until September - no big deal as we just had a little one and the timing allows me to focus on that. Just had a question regarding the deferral; I thought when issued the deferral they would give you a reason, however I just received a notice on my account that said deferred until Septe...

Re: Calgary Police Service

Side note: if you're struggling with the BDI, thats an easy fix. Unlike the A-PREP and APCAT you can prepare for the BDI in a relatively short period of time as long as you stick to the required STAR format and come up with some good competency examples. A lot of the examples I used, I didn't think...

Re: Calgary Police Service

To give you an idea, I submitted my application in January and got booked in for testing in June. It takes time. I had a friend apply at the same time, he got in a little bit faster, by about a month. We figured it goes alphabetical after screening as his last name is nearer to A then mine. It's a l...

Re: Calgary Police Service

Cityblue has some great advice all through this thread. One other thing that I think could use some repeating is practicing the pivots on the leger. Cityblue said you want to be hitting that line at the beep, not before, but you also want to practice the pivot so your return after hitting the line i...

Re: Calgary Police Service

At this point, I am just patiently waiting. I will hear when I hear. With the on-boarding for June going on, no one will hear anything until afterward. Just keep working on your BDI examples :D The wait sucks, but with the time, anyone who isn't preparing for the process would be a fool. I heard a r...

Re: Calgary Police Service

I have had some contact, waiting for the next round of testing to begin. I am pretty sure all of the available resources are going towards onboarding the June class, which is only partially full from what I have been told. This happened to a friend of mine as well who submitted and the March class w...

Re: Calgary Police Service

I submitted my application at the end of January and have not heard anything other than an email from Recruiting when I updated some information saying someone would contact me "soon" to schedule testing. That was six weeks ago. Could be busy, but I am debating calling them today just to check in.
