Re: GENERAL CBSA APPLICANT CHIT CHAT

To drive airside (if you are with an enforcement team or cargo as an example) you must do a separate course entirely and then pass a DA exam and practical. To be able to do those you must posses a G License I believe. I will look into it and post the correct info. As for the transfer, learners perm...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Same thing here. The length of shadowing depends on how well each officer is doing depending on feedback from the mentor (or whichever term you may wish to use) and observations by mgmt.

Re: CBSA uniform components test phase

I lasted all of two hours wearing them before I switched back into a pair of 5.11s. Without going into graphic detail, I think if I wore them any longer my daughter would end up being an only child. I really hope the next pairs are much better than this one.

Re: GENERAL CBSA APPLICANT CHIT CHAT

Hi Everyone, Final countdown to Rigaud is on - I am thinking of heading up to Montreal on Friday and spending a couple days there before moving into Rigaud... excited and overwhelmed! Just thought I would do a post here to see if any past recruits can provide some insight on any items they are than...

I'm in too. I know there are a couple other BSOs lurking around on here that are in as well.

Re: 5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants

gotta ask, How do you guys get away with rocking the 511 stryke pants? I was checking them out the other day and they are blatantly tac pants. From the fabric to the pockets, they just stand out. Our issued pants are navy blue cargoes and in the majority of places no one cares. The only time I've s...

IIRC there are heavy bags up in the chapel.

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Ha ha. Let me google that for you. You got me. I was just looking for real world advice. I know Google isn't always the best place to look. I was hoping for specific info on the controlled fall stuff. As it was previously mentionned, if you can find a place to practice you should take advantage bec...

Re: 5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants

The only downside to the Stryke pants is that the cargo pockets are smaller than the other styles. I have a couple pairs that I wear for work and a couple others for travel etc. My overall preference is the TDU style but I can't say there's anything wrong with the style.

Re: CBSA Vests

I can't believe I'm going to say this....but the discussion forum between uniform people and officers on Atlas/Intranet is quite informative and nice to see. Officers giving their opinion on what the bomber should/shouldn't have, and uniform personnel acknowledging the input. Damn! CBSA could possi...

Re: GENERAL CBSA APPLICANT CHIT CHAT

Exactly. SBSO's are an excellent source of cheap labour that work hard. Plus, it's actually a good recruiting tool. Plus, airports now are getting armed. Even if we aren't allowed to wear, and the duty firearms are safely locked away 100% of the time. So, even if they finish arming airports, no rea...

Re: warm fun place to go

Roatan, West Bay, exceptional beach and usually very calm. Great restaurants. You can literally walk right off the beach a few hundred feet for world class snorkeling. You need to take some care if you like to get off the beaten trail. End of September-early October is the best time of year to go b...

I highly recommend Roatan, Honduras. The water is great with lots of fish to both see and catch, the food is amazing and the locals go out of their way to look after you.

Re: Open Cuff cases and Handcuff care

CBSA has a few wearing thigh rigs, after jumping through some hoops with doctors. I'm not aware of any wearing load bearing vests but I also don't know of any who have tried to get one approved. The US CBP guys have them but I'm also jealous of them wearing shorts when it's 90 and humid out. I've h...
