Re: Alberta - Fish and Wildlife Officer
Spoke to one of the supervisors a few days ago while on bikes, was at his cabin on the lake. Mentioned that they have 10 new recruits because of the usual retirements coming up in a few years. Great bunch of guys ! excellent source of info and always take the time out to stop and say hi.

Re: Protective Services Officer
Thanks for the info Elbee, on a side note almost half of the CPOIP classes are AHS recruits and Transit officers, the rest are the different County's, etc.

Re: Protective Services Officer
Every province is different, I can only speak about Alberta, the special constable program is pretty much gone here. Most places like my current work place used to be Regional Police or much smaller police forces, that was replaced by the special constable program. After that it became the current C...

Be prepared to be given very little notice, you'll be lucky if you get two weeks. One thing you will learn about the Sol Gen is that they are not very organized or efficient.[/quote]

Re: Edmonton Remand Centre/ Fort Saskatchewan
Really varies, we are still the only center in the province to hire full-time, and casual of course. Our overtime is throught the roof, have to keep turning it down or will burn out. Some guys are making $80,000- 90,000 then lose it to tax's of course.

Re: How easy is it to transfer from one instituition to another?
For us, unless you have a %100 percent compassionate transfer lined up your SOL, and even that might be once a year. I never thought a transfer could be denied. But it is not under any bargaining agreement under the Union, it is under "Policy" meaning if that center is under staffed they c...

Re: How easy is it to transfer from one instituition to another?
I'm sorry but I have to reply to the person who's "dream" it is to be a CO, if you are really and I mean are really serious then apply to us. We are currently hiring fulltime ! we are also short-staffed all the time. The pay is good and you also get a retention bonus, just remember that 1)...

Re: Alberta Corrections Hiring
Thanks AC for clearing that up, got used to seeing only a few postings and forgot that there are actually more jobs on the website. Was mentioning this to one of our D.D.O's yesterday and we are trying to get the numbers up as we are allways short staffed, and once the new remand center opens (which...

Re: Ask a Sheriff
Thought I would mention, as of last week there is a hiring freeze until early 2010. Not sure if this is the same for the Sheriff's or not, only people leaving will be replaced on a one to one basis. For us it is until spring 2010, some postions will go through depending on the job. Any Sheriff's get...

Re: Ask a Sheriff
You are right about the interior Supt. job, (for B.C. Sheriff's) that has been taken by our old Inspector from Penticton Detachment in B.C. Not a bad retirement job, about $80.000 yr and own company car.

Re: Ask a Sheriff
Just thought I would pass this on to any other people asking about the Traffic positions, in communicating with Mr. Vince CALEFFI via internal e-mail. There are no plans to recruit into Traffic until possibly the Fall,
