Re: Science majors in the force?

yea, here's the wording. So 110(1)(f)(iv) might allow for someone to not have post secondary but sounds like it will come with other requirements. Bill 175, Safer Ontario Act, 2017 Appointment of police officer 110 (1) No person shall be appointed as a police officer unless he or she, (a) is a Canad...

Re: Science majors in the force?

I know this is only relevant to Ontario, but aren't the changes coming in to the police services act requiring post secondary? I remember seeing something about that for new appointments.

Re: Federal Wildfire Enforcement Officer

A lot of the federal wildlife enforcement focus is on import, export and illegal trade of wildlife and species at risk in particular. It means a fair chunk of their time is spent responding to inquiries from CBSA at ports of entry / shipping centres about wildlife and wildlife related shipments. A ...

Re: Federal Wildfire Enforcement Officer

i had a good friend who flipped from being a gamie to one of these positions and didn't like it very much. Why not? Gamie = Warden? Sorry, yea gamie = conservation officer / game warden depending where you are. He didn't like it because they actually do very little enforcement of anything, lots of ...

Re: City of Mississauga - Transit Enforcement

I had a question about Special Constable status powers. Most transit systems have a set of their own bylaws. Would a S/C primarily enforce just these bylaws and the TPA, or would they also enforce criminal code/CDSA/MHA etc? For example if someone assaulted a transit operator, would the S/C be more...

Re: Conservation Officer Positions-Ontario

You're right, I'm sure they're all going to be going to people who have done the enforcement intern gig or current CO's that want a paid move somewhere. The part I was thinking might not be 100% is "having to post them to say they did". Getting jobs through the RTR process now is an absolu...

Re: Conservation Officer Positions-Ontario

For those interested 18 ON CO jobs are up on the OPS site (3 are bilingual positions) and they are open positions. Deadline to apply is Aug 21. This is a big hire so I'm sure competition will be fierce as always. Good luck to all that apply. Open competition but will be used for internal movement. ...

Re: Your opinion - By-law/MLEO Uniforms, PPE and Vehicles

Green / Tan is the colour of MNR Gamies in Ont. They made a point of picking something completely different than all other law enforcement when they made the switch from the old two tone brown in then mid 90's

Re: MTO (Ontario) officers - provincewide postings

From the outside, it really looks like sloppy management. I understand from the inside, things look different. But Directors should be informing their employees of things that don't pan out in the end. Things that were posted many times on this form and then never happen. The hiring process shouldn...

Re: MTO (Ontario) officers - provincewide postings

Is MTO Enforcement Officer training in Aylmer or St. Catharines? Aylmer...good one! Once upon a time MTO recruits were trained at OPC. But that was probably at least 15 years ago. Not since the early 90's. Starting around 95, after the big Social Contract hiring freeze ended and everyone had to do ...

Re: ENFORCEMENT INTERN: Ministry of Natural Resources

It's like the common sense revolution all over again. Good thing I don't work in Ontario anymore, otherwise I'd be waking up with night terrors and cold sweats every night. The MNR hasn't seen any good times since I graduated from Fleming and that was 17 years ago. I might just have to scratch Onta...

Re: ENFORCEMENT INTERN: Ministry of Natural Resources

Anyone hear anything on this position yet?? MNR just took another 40%-ish budget cut, so they may be seing where they are with their FTE count and money. I haven't heard if enforcment took a hit but the resource tech side of things are looking pretty grim. MNR is always the whipping boy.... heard a...

Re: ENFORCEMENT INTERN: Ministry of Natural Resources

It's a paid DCO contract followed by a hiatus and then a paid acting CO contract. It's not permanent by any means, but the next time a permanent job comes up there's a pretty good chance you'll be hired. The problem is that "experienced" people with life experience are automatically exclu...
