Re: *** ASK AN RCMP RECRUITER ***

Hey Guys - why don't we leave this thread for Caroline and the applicants? There are lots of other threads for discussions.

Re: RCMP APPLICANT GENERAL CHIT CHAT

That doesn't happen very often. When it does they usually do a shortened version of Depot like what laterals do.

Re: RCMP APPLICANT GENERAL CHIT CHAT

Wow...one troop of laterals every few years? Surely there's more laterals than that? We have never been big on taking on laterals. Those from Ontario would find this odd as it is quite common for cops to move between forces. A big impediment had been that pensions were not transferable for those lo...

Re: Is the IPSC black badge a help or hinderance towards hir

I used to be a recruiter. My initial reaction, once I figured out what the heck IPSC was, would have been to question this applicant's motivation. Most cops are not as into guns and shooting as the public thinks. I only know a couple who are into IPSC.

Still the same, although the unlimited sick time is under review.

Re: RCMP APPLICANT GENERAL CHIT CHAT

There is a "T" at the end, as in Depot.

If you are just filling out your package six to eight months is pretty optimistic. Check out some of the postings and you'll see what I mean.

Re: RCMP APPLICANT GENERAL CHIT CHAT

It didn't occur to me to go to the service. I was actually surprised that almost all my troop went as only a couple attended church while we were in training. I did take my family in to see the chapel. They were not religious but we appreciated the asthetics as it is an impressive place. I would hav...

Re: RCMP APPLICANT GENERAL CHIT CHAT

When your troop graduates there is a chapel service specifically for your troop on the weekend before you graduate, I don't think you are required to attend in the sense that they would force you to go to church, but I've never heard of anyone refusing to attend, either. Being a heathen, I didn't g...

Re: Mounties will get more firepower

My optimistic take on the announcement is that they should roll out pretty quick (in RCMP terms). There's going to be members who don't want rifles or who won't be able to qualify either.

Re: Mounties will get more firepower

I'm not sure where the 350 rifles number came from. All I have been able to find is a news report saying there will be an INITIAL purchase of approximately 375 C-8s. I don't think anyone is saying that will be all we get. I was pleasantly shocked to hear we would be getting a proven weapon instead o...

Re: RCMP APPLICANT GENERAL CHIT CHAT

Don't waste your time trying to get familiarized with RCMP firearms before you get there. You'll get excellent instruction at Depot. All you can do on your own is pick up bad habits that need to be broken. I had never fired a gun before I went and graduated with crossed revolvers and rifles on my re...

Re: Capital Punishment

I don't support capital punishment. It doesn't work as a deterrent. I don't like the company it would put Canada in, our neighbours to the south notwithstanding. If a mistake is made you can't take it back (Milgaard, Truscott, etc). I would be very surprised if the Harper government opens any of the...

Re: RCMP Questions

I've noticed a lot of people saying that RCMP has effected their home life negatively; but no one has really speculated as to why. Could some of you please expand? Is it an RCMP thing or being a cop in general? Unless you've been a cop inside and outside the RCMP it would be difficult for anyone to...

Re: First troop of Aboriginal Community Constables graduate.

Easier said than done. Financially they will do okay. Aboriginal members working on reserves don't pay income tax so their incomes will probably be close to or even better than the RMs. We used to have Native Specials and I think it worked pretty well. We only ran into problems when Inkster decided ...

Re: Getting Moved - RCMP/OPP

Yes, there is a field coaching program for cadets sent to Ontario. In years past it included a few months doing GD with a municipal force but that was ended. They do rotations with various RCMP units. In some cases they go up to Nunavut to do some uniform work as well.
