Re: OPP chooses new sidearm: Glock 17

Good move, in my opinion. Glocks are excellent service pistols, and the newest generation with interchangeable grips have been great for fitting officers. 9mm is a good choice as well. Nearly equivalent terminal ballistics to other calibers, more capacity, lower recoil. All around, a good call for t...

Re: Benelli Shotgun

What's your intended use for the 12ga? You said waterfowling but also listed the Tactical shotgun in there, which tells me you might be considering using it for playing at the range as well. If you're remotely considering shooting birds with it, get a Supernova. The 3.5" chamber will be an adva...

I spoke with an Insp with CNPS and apparently the most recent positions are all for experienced officers only.

Re: Will British Columbia adopt Community Peace Officers?

As previously stated. Bylaw/minicipal law enforcement/ etc ARE already peace officers. Previous court rulings (yes multiple) only serve to solidify that fact. Now specific legislation provincially is a different story. I'm not too familiar with the province of British Columbia, however the Alberta ...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Does hiring happen on a fairly regular basis, or is it pretty arbitrary depending on need? I'm trying to figure out when to schedule my PARE, and I don't want to wait so long that I miss the next round or so early that it expires before hiring starts. Hiring is done as-needed. There isnt really a s...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Thanks for the info guys. I'm starting to think it's something I'd like to do. Can courthouse sheriffs observe cases, or do they normally only go into the courtroom only when there's a disturbance? I'm a CPO2 right now, so I go to court fairly often, and I find the proceedings pretty interesting. A...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

It's a good job. The daily experience depends greatly on where you work. In large venues like Edmonton, you're more likely to spend longer times in specialised areas within the courthouse - specifically working in Courts, Escorts or Cells. In smaller venues, you'll typically do a little bit of every...

Re: Guns, an investment.

On the topic of buying guns, It's a dangerous time to buy semi-auto's. I know a guy who just bought a Tavor and I cringed a bit inside. I guess a stripped AR receiver wouldn't hurt if you don't have one yet, but I wouldn't gamble thousands of dollars on the current government following previous ones...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

RCMP vs Sheriff issues?, I don't get what the problem is as a lot of RMs don't do traffic duties. - firstly, they are too busy. - secondly, most don't like it. In general that is. Unless, you mean Provincial or City traffic services complain... Then.. *There are lots of streets and HWYs*, lots of *...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

I'm currently an MB Sheriff, will be interviewing this week. My opinion is that costs are what they are - best way to think about it is an investment in opportunity. In MB we have unpaid training for both Sheriffs and Corrections, that hurts. A lot of recruits burn their savings to the ground to ge...

For Law Court/ Transport Sheriffs are there hours of work court hours (9-5). What frequency of overtime either nights or weekends. Once finished the training program and officer coaching what opportunities do Sheriffs have to take additional training and courses. For CSPT, work hours are built arou...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

We do have carbines.....only the shooting teams use them now. Fish and Wildlife which is under the same ministry is currently testing carbines. Them acquiring carbines may open the door for the Sheriifs in the future. Nothing is planned at this time for the front line to get them. Shooting teams? ?...

Re: S&W 5946 R.I.P

Sounds pretty much like how I heard it. Still not going to say that I know what went on. However, pretty rich that you would call me lazy for a hypothetical lack of secure gun box access, when that guy ran in to a cell block with a loaded operable firearm. Yup ... I can see you just want to curtail...
