Re: MTO (Ontario) officers - provincewide postings

Not so bad when it gets you off night shifts. Not so great when you end up with a court shift in the middle of a block of 5 or 6 RDO. Is there an actual overnight shift? I've never seen the scale near me lit up later than like 9 or 10 maybe. Also, how far in advance do you usually get a schedule? A...

Re: MTO (Ontario) officers - provincewide postings

Your court time. Is that paid Ot or do they make you bank it. Or do you get a choice ? Neither. Court is on regular shifts. When trials are set, the court officer usually tries to make sure they are put on days where you are already working. Some courts don’t have early resolution (where officer is...

Re: MTO (Ontario) officers - provincewide postings

I have been doing this job for almost a decade. It isn't perfect. I definitely don't have as negative a view of some of my colleagues/former colleagues, clearly... I've worked with and for dozens of other law enforcement agencies at this point and the grass might seem greener in other jobs but a few...

Re: Questions for an MTO Enforcement Officer

1. Are MTO officers considered "peace officers", thereby eligible for the peace officer exemplary service medal? (I'm sooo close for corrections, but want to use time as peace officer as CO for it) Yes. A bunch of our guys have it. 2. Are officers only equipped with ASP's, or OC spray as ...

Re: MTO (Ontario) officers - provincewide postings

Good day!!! I'm new here and just wondering if anyone has any insight on when they might be doing another hire for enforcement. Now I know last hire there were about 1600 applicants....does anyone know how many they hired? And does everyone who gets hired come out of the Police Foundations course? ...

Re: Researching OPP for television script

The French version of 19-2 is one of the more realistic police shows I've ever seen out of Canada IMO. Of course the story line is a little inflated (TV always is) but as far as the small details and the day to day calls and attitudes I think they did a good job. Another thing they did right is they...

Re: Ask a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer

Yes, all provinces have mechanics that oversee commercial vehicle inspection programs/out of province inspections/written off inspections etc. Depending on the province they may or may not work for the same ministry as CVE. Reading that job posting, it is clear this is not a CVE officer position. T...

Re: ATS Hearing Test

Like others have said ATS does the test... If there are issues they can give you an form to take to an audiologist to retest you in a controlled environment (sound booth) for the final word on whether or not you meet the standard.

Re: Ask a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer

I get the "so what you don't even have a mechanic's licence?" from time to time. It is usually from a driver angry from the fact that I just pointed out something like a wheel with loose and missing fasteners, or an air line worn through, or a rim with a giant crack, a bald tire, etc. No, ...

Re: Toronto Police Service

Security guards carry that stuff too, and they don't enforce any laws. Your average citizen can carry cuffs and a baton as well, and they aren't enforcing any laws. Since when is it legal for Tom, Dick and Harry to carry cuffs and an ASP? Also security guards in Ontario enforce the Trespass to Prop...

Re: MTO (Ontario) officers - provincewide postings

If there is a presentation, they should give you the topic ahead of time (like when they called you for the interview). The last few hires didn't have to do presentations.
