Re: RCMP auxiliary officers furious with proposed changes

If municipalities want auxillaries, can they not create a municipal level program? After all, the RCMP are contracted for municipal policing, and are in effect muni police and responsible to the city, not the fed gov't. It just wouldn't be an RCMP program - different uniforms, etc.

Re: Researching OPP for television script

You could try just searching canlii.org for "opp" and "murder" and see what comes up. Some decisions have fascinating case histories laid out in them from start to finish.

Re: Researching OPP for television script

Also on warrants - in our business here in many cases, we need to specify who is going in, such as other agencies etc, and often enough things turn up that are not part of our warrant (or our authority) so one of the other agencies has to run off and submit a whole new ITO for the item and related i...

Re: Researching OPP for television script

Those are all good points - I'll be more open minded next time...it can often be easier for press to say RCMP than specifying integrated or combined unit work, especially if it is at RCMP detchment or HQ that the announcement is made, or if RCMP are the only uniformed folks at a press conference.

Re: Researching OPP for television script

Ah, here's another good one from my experience, that you could include for authenticity:

- if your scenarios involve RCMP in any capacity whatsoever, they will take credit for the entire investigation at the press briefing.

no offence to any mounties on the board...

Hey, aren't you the comedian?

Anyways, one thing - movies like super troopers are great etc, but it is annoying to see police use drugs in almost every movie out there...

Re: 2010 BC Assessement property values

According to BC Assessment, my property value dropped by $22k this year. Probably due to the fact I live in a community with 130 homes, and two sold as foreclosures last years for pennies on the dollar. Saves me on taxes!

Re: Hunting

I'd love to get out...finding time to go into the interior is the trouble. I live in a isolated area, and would hunt in my own back yard but it is played out from poaching.

Don't they already have CSO's working under the RCMP banner - Is this sort of the same thing, only under bylaws?

Re: Do LEOs value Security personel?

More like 2 times, but yes, you'd be correct. I'm basing it off of the one example I was aware of - the vendor billing us over $60/hr for one guard sitting in the corner making $10/hr and hopefully making sure the trades contractors weren't walking out with who knows what. I guess because it was a ...

Re: Do LEOs value Security personel?

I think someone running a security company has a vested interest in attracting schmucks who will work for minimum wage (or close to it) so the owner can bill 4 to 6 times as much and "make as much as four officers in a year".

The striking Ottawa branch was apparently shutdown, hence the sudden need for bodies in Gatineau.

Waiting for the bubble to come up the valley a little farther - I'd love to unload my 3 acres, 2800sqft house, and 2400sqft shop for cool $1m and move to the hinterland.
