Re: Winnipeg Auxiliary Cadets

I have really been enjoying my time back in Winnipeg - thanks Madeline. I have been reviewing my math all weekend, and most of it feels pretty good (aside from fractions, don't know why I just can't get those[and they weren't hard for me when I was in school!]). I go to write the test tomorrow, so ...

Re: Winnipeg Auxiliary Cadets

I got the call back that I passed the test, so I am in the clear for now. All I need to do is get the WPS-PAT done, and they said the Panel Interview will be booked within a week or so following that. I guess it is time to polish up on my competencies!

Winnipeg Auxiliary Cadets

Anyone out there applying for these positions? I have returned to Winnipeg, and although the pay isn't the best, I figured it will allow me to get to know the communities of Winnipeg and WPS better before I apply for Constable for the class of #152. I am scheduled to write the test on Wednesday, whi...

Re: Toronto Police Service

I knew of one recruiter who actually went back and spoke to high school teachers of candidates. No stone unturned. The main reason they need to see it is because it's a mandatory requirement. It used to be grade ten was the minimum but now the high school diploma is required, right in the PSA. CO I...

Re: Learning another language

I haven't seen the most recent version. The last one I tried was a few years ago, but I doubt it has changed that much. The "speech" aspect that they included was primarily pronunciation recognition - it would be impossible for a computer to do anything other than basic, formulaic conversa...

Re: Winnipeg Police Service class 151

To be honest, my wife is incredibly unimpressed with the cadet position. We got into a nice argument about whether or not it is worth while for me to even bother applying for it. The $11/hour is basically a pay cut down to 30% of what I make now. Mind you, the expenses overseas are a fair bit more t...

Re: Learning another language

I think that Rosetta Stone is pretty good, but it lack in one aspect that pretty much all of these types of programs lack - actual production of language (speech). These sorts of programs are quite good for passive language skills (reading and listening), but really lack in the speaking and writing ...

Re: Toronto Police Service

I have been thinking about the high school transcript requirements that so many police services have. Is it still necessary to submit these if you have proof of higher education? It seems kind of silly to submit my high school grades when I could show them my B.A. Diploma! But I understand that bure...

Re: Toronto Police Service

Thanks Evil Flying Squirrel, what a great reply. That is the sort of thing that I joined this board for, and your points to consider are much appreciated. My background is a touch different from yours, which I hope will be a benefit to my application. I spent my early years in Winnipeg (up to grade ...

Re: Toronto Police Service

Just wondering if anyone here is an out of town applicant to the TPS. I am seriously considering applying to the TPS, but I haven't really seen much here to indicate how they deal with out of towners. Not that it is discouraged at all, just that no concessions are really made. Not that it matters i...

Re: Winnipeg Police Service class 151

I guess the question for me is whether it is worth it to apply for the cadet position and get the foot into the door so to speak. I have found it somewhat difficult to find out what the cadets will actually do (I only have access to the website - I guess I could write an email and ask), and I am thi...

Re: Winnipeg Police Service class 151

Oh man, I feel for you guys. I know that is all part of the process and everything, but that is depressing. I just hope that they at least finish up your BGIs and not leave them hanging, that would seriously drive me crazy. But they will continue with the process in August, with a class start date o...
